INDIANAPOLIS –Indianapolis metro police are investigating after a person walked into the Indianapolis Public Library nursing a gunshot wound Monday evening.
Officers with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department were called around 5:33 p.m. to 40 E. St. Clair Street in response to a shooting. IMPD said officers arrived and found an adult male suffering from a gunshot wound.
The victim was last reported to be “awake and breathing,” according to IMPD. He was reportedly taken to a local hospital and is listed in stable condition.
Soon after arriving at the library, IMPD officers were made aware that the shooting may have occurred at the intersection of W. 9th Street and N. Capitol Avenue. Witness statements and security footage later corroborated this, IMPD Officer Drew Brown said.
Officers are now reportedly canvassing the area near 9th and Capitol to try and establish a crime scene and piece together what happened. Preliminarily, IMPD believes that the shooting was an isolated incident between two people and said there is no threat to the public.
Officer Brown said that IMPD is now encouraging any individuals who may have information on the shooting to come forward and assist in the investigation. Brown also said that the shooting itself was “likely captured” on a nearby security camera.
No other information was immediately available.
