INDIANAPOLIS — The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department has arrested a 20-year-old after an early morning shooting on the northwest side of Indianapolis early Saturday morning.
According to a post on social media from IMPD, officers with the department’s northwest district were called to the 3800 block of Lafayette Road on a report of a person shot. When officers arrived, they found a man who had a reported gunshot wound. The man was transported to a local hospital in serious condition.
After IMPD aggravated assault detectives began an investigation into the shooting, the post read that witnesses provided various information surrounding the incident, including a vehicle description. With this information, detectives identified 20-year-old Edwin Gonzalez-Diaz as a suspect.
The post read that Gonzalez-Diaz was located at a nearby apartment complex after the vehicle believed to have been involved in the shooting was found. Gonzalez-Diaz was taken into custody without incident and suspected evidence from the shooting was recovered.
Gonzalez-Diaz was arrested on preliminary charges of battery with a deadly weapon and criminal recklessness. The Marion County Prosecutor’s Office will make the final charging decision.
