INDIANAPOLIS — An investigation has been launched after a deceased man was found inside an impounded vehicle on Indy’s near south side Friday night.

Officers with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department were dispatched to 2334 S. California Street, the listed address for JR’s Services And Recovery LLC, after an employee reported seeing what they believed to be the top of a human head inside the vehicle while passing by.

Detectives on the scene encountered difficulty getting a clear view of the reported body due to a large amount of clothing observed inside the vehicle, according to IMPD.

IMPD reported that the vehicle was towed on Thursday from a McDonald’s located on South Madison Avenue. Officers did not have keys to the locked vehicle, preventing them from being able to immediately access it to get a closer look at the body.

Officers could not confirm if it was a human body or not until they managed to get the car doors open.

IMPD later confirmed to FOX59/CBS4 that the deceased individual was an adult male and that detectives would continue investigating to determine the exact cause of death.
