INDIANAPOLIS — Police are investigating a fatal overdose that happened on the southeast side of Indianapolis on Sunday.

The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department initially reported that the person they found dead in the 5800 block of Outer Bank Road had been shot. The agency later clarified that the victim had died from an overdose.

Police found a firearm and narcotics at the scene. Assistance from the Marion County Coroner’s Office and additional homicide detectives helped the IMPD officers that made it to the scene first determine that the trauma the decedent had sustained was the result of an apparent overdose, not a shooting.

As of this article’s publication, no additional information on the incident had been made available.
