INDIANAPOLIS — Two individuals were arrested by detectives with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department after a shooting that reportedly stemmed from an attempted robbery earlier this month on the south side of Indianapolis.

According to a social media post from IMPD, 21-year-old Lazaruis Harrell and 19-year-old Markell Coles were arrested on robbery charges. A third juvenile, who was unnamed by IMPD, was initially arrested but released pending further investigation.

On Sept. 2, officers with the department’s southeast district were dispatched to the 8000 block of Madison Avenue on a report of a shooting. When officers arrived, they located a man with a gunshot would. The man was transported to a local hospital in stable condition.

After officers arrived at the scene, three suspects were located that matched the description provided by witnesses on scene, including Harrell, Coles and the juvenile. The three individuals were taken into custody.

Detectives on scene claim that the three individuals attempted to get into a vehicle that was not there before they left the scene on foot, which led them to be taken into custody.

The post read that the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office will make the final charging decision in this case.
