INDIANAPOLIS — A person was critically injured in a shooting on the east side of Indianapolis Friday night.

According to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, the shooting unfolded in the 1400 block of South Bancroft Street around 7:30 p.m. IMPD became aware of the shooting when officers stationed in the 1300 block of Riley Place — which located less than half a mile from Bancroft Street — heard the sound of gunfire.

Police found an adult male with injuries consistent with gunshot wounds soon after they heard the shots go off. IMPD confirmed that the man was transported from the scene to a local hospital in “critical but stable” condition.

Officers believe the man had been involved in a disturbance with another individual before he was shot.

Police were investigating an officer-involved shooting in the 1300 block of Riley Place before the shooting on Bancroft happened. Counting the shooting that happened on Bancroft Street, three shootings happened in a half-mile radius on Friday.

Officers were first sent to the 1300 block of Riley Place around 3 p.m. to investigate a shooting that left one person dead and another injured. During their investigation of the shooting, police shot one suspect.

Hours after the officer-involved shooting happened, the shooting on Bancroft Street unfolded. At this point in their investigation, police do not believe the shooting on Bancroft Street is related to either of the shootings that happened on Riley Place.

IMPD did not arrest anybody at the scene of the Bancroft Street shooting. Police have yet to publicly identify any suspects or persons of interest who may have been involved in the Bancroft Street shooting.

Detectives do not believe the shootings on Riley Place and Bancroft Street pose any ongoing threats to the general public. IMPD is still asking those with information on the shootings to call its detectives at (317) 327-3475.

Counting the shootings on Riley Place and Bancroft Streets, IMPD investigated at least four shootings between the hours of 3:04 p.m. and 9:10 p.m. Friday. Police confirmed a person was also shot in the 100 block of East Palmer Street — which is located near the intersection of East Minnesota and South Meridian Streets — around 9:10 p.m. Law enforcement indicated the Palmer Street shooting victim was “awake and breathing” when officers found them.

“We heavily rely on the community’s help,” IMPD Captain Rob Rider said during a media briefing. “If you have any tips, if you have any information on what happened either at 1400 Bancroft or on Riley today, please call 327-3475. We rely on you. If you see something, call. If you know something, call. Even if you think it’s not important or it’s minimal, it could be something really big.”
