Located downtown, the Alamo features interactive tours and exhibits. With over four million visitors every year, the Alamo is one of the most visited historic sites in the state and is in the middle of a renaissance of interpretation and conservation. In 2023, the new 24,000 square-foot Alamo Exhibition Hall and Collections Building will be open, representing an exciting new chapter in San Antonio history.
San Antonio African American Community Archive and Museum (SAAACAM)
With the charge of telling the stories of San Antonio’s African American descendants, SAAACAM collects, maintains, disseminates, and interprets authentic African American artifacts related to San Antonio’s Black history. In addition to housing a physical collection at La Villita, they also host numerous educational events and activities throughout the year.
San Fernando Cathedral
As the oldest, continuously functioning religious community in Texas, San Fernando Cathedral holds a special place for visitors and residents alike. Built in 1731, the church has been at the heart of cultural development throughout the city’s history. The cathedral also serves as the backdrop for the immersive art experience known as The Saga, an art and light show projected onto the facade of the church.
