WHITE COUNTY, Ind. — An Illinois man was arrested on Thursday evening after he took troopers with the Indiana State Police on a car chase on I-65 that began in White County and continued into Jasper County.

According to a news release from the Indiana State Police, 32-year-old Kevin Collins, a Calumet City, Illinois resident, was arrested and preliminarily charged with:

  • One count of resisting law enforcement, a Level 6 felony
  • One count of obstructing traffic, a Level 6 felony
  • One count of criminal recklessness with a vehicle, a Level 6 felony
  • Three operating a vehicle while intoxicated-related misdemeanors
  • One resisting law enforcement-related misdemeanor
  • One leaving the scene of a crash-related misdemeanor
  • One reckless driving-related misdemeanor

Just after 11 p.m. on Thursday, Indiana State Police dispatch received a 9-1-1 call of a vehicle that was reportedly recklessly while driving southbound on I-65. When troopers responded to the area, they reportedly located a 2016 Nissan Altima blocking both southbound lanes at the 192-mile marker of I-65.

Troopers attempted a traffic stop on the vehicle, which was reportedly driven by a man later identified as Collins. The release said that as the traffic stop was initiated, the Altima drove southbound on I-65.

Officials said that the Altima continued southbound to the 188-mile marker, where Collins reportedly exited the highway and got back onto I-65 northbound. The pursuit continued northbound into Jasper County. The vehicle reportedly struck a tire deflation device at the 208-mile marker on I-65 and the Altima struck another vehicle and continued northbound.

The chase continued until the 215-mile marker, where the Altima reportedly exited onto State Road 114 and continued into Rensselaer. The vehicle reportedly came to a stop on US 231 near Rensselaer and Collins left the scene on foot and was later taken into custody.

According to the release, Collins was transported to the White County Jail after he was arrested.
