This weekend, my dad and I saw Kimberly Akimbo, a Broadway musical about a New Jersey teenager who looks like a 72-year-old lady. The show was hilarious and moving — highly recommend — and, afterward, when we were heading home, my dad said, “If I could snap my fingers and have any job in the world, it would be a conductor.”

During the play, the orchestra sat above the stage, so we audience members could see the musicians blowing into tubas and swapping instruments and stretching their hands. And the conductor stood in front, leading them through the score. “You move your arms and WHUMPF! The entire orchestra plays!” my dad said. “What a blissful job.”

For the next few days, I pondered the same question: If you could have any job in the world, money/talent/etc no object, what would it be?

“Gymnast, but after that faded I’d be a true crime podcaster,” a Cup of Jo reader named Alyssa once commented. Another reader called FGB said she’d be an “underwater photographer, specializing in sharks!”

For me? I narrowed it down to three: a ballerina; a high school math teacher; or the crooner at the bar in Goodfellas.

What about you? Please share below, these are the big questions!

P.S. A bunch of dos or don’ts, and 10 lessons I’ve learned in my career.
