SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) – South Carolina authorities have arrested a man wanted for a Sioux Falls homicide that happened earlier this year at Dunham Park.
The Anderson County Sheriff’s office in South Carolina arrested Lamont Burks Jr. Tuesday afternoon. He faces murder, attempted murder and assault charges that trace back to the shooting, which Sioux Falls authorities have been investigating for nearly three months.
“There were multiple people that were there. People know exactly what happened, we rely on cooperation from the public to help us out in these circumstances,” Sioux Falls Police Chief Jon Thum said on August 26th.
The Anderson County Sheriff’s Office tells KELOLAND News that a license plate reader caught Burks’ car. It alerted officials in South Carolina that he was wanted here in South Dakota. He was booked into the Anderson County Detention Center, where he’ll remain until an extradition hearing date is set by South Dakota agencies.
Sioux Falls Police are working closely with South Carolina officials to bring Burks back to South Dakota.
The Anderson County Sheriff’s Office says Burks did not resist his arrest. An exact date for an extradition hearing is not scheduled yet.
On Friday, Sioux Falls officials arrested 32-year-old Walter Stewart who also faces the same charges as Burks.
