SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — Good morning KELOLAND! Overnight thunderstorms have been impacting parts of the region, including Nebraska and Kansas. However, the shower synthetic storms are struggling a bit as they tracked the northeast. We will continue to watch for isolated showers and thunderstorms in southeastern KELOLAND today. More on that story coming up.

First a fire weather watch has been posted for your Saturday in Far Southwestern South Dakota. Hot temperatures, low humidity, and strong southwesterly winds will lead to extreme fire danger during the day on Saturday.

On Futurecast, warming temperatures will be the rule across most of the region. Highs today will range from the lower 90s in Rapid City to the lower 80s in the Sioux Falls area. Hotter weather is likely tomorrow with temperatures soaring to 100 or higher from Philip to Pine Ridge. Meanwhile, Sioux Falls and much of the East will stay in the 80s. That will change on Sunday as both heat and humidity will be making headlines across the region.

A closer look at rain chances the next couple of days shows most of the rain will stay in Nebraska tonight and tomorrow morning. However, a few areas of showers are possible including Worthington and Spencer tomorrow morning.

This map below shows the high heat index values building as we head into the weekend Sunday in particular will be quiet hot and humid with dew points in the seventies and highs in the 90s East River.
