Chicago’s in for another muggy spell of summer weather.
The city will face a “hot and humid” climate over the next few days, though the National Weather Service said it won’t be quite as balmy as last week.
“This week it looks like we’ll only have one day where the heat indices cross the 100-degree mark,” said National Weather Service meteorologist Rafal Ogorek.
That day will be Tuesday, “the first day of astronomical summer,” as the National Weather Service noted on Twitter. Chicago is expected to see heat indices — the way the body feels the temperature — up to 105 degrees. The forecast is not hot enough to trigger a “heat advisory” from the National Weather Service.
After a “warm and muggy” Monday with high temperatures around 93 degrees and a “breezy” and toasty Tuesday with an expected top mark of 98 degrees, the city could see scattered storms Tuesday night, Ogorek said.
“Beyond that, we’ll probably stay dry through at least Friday,” he said.
Wednesday and Thursday will see more moderate weather with highs in the low 90s. Chicago should see cooler temperatures by the lake.
Forecasts currently show temperatures in the high 80s and low 90s in Friday and Saturday before an expected cold front cools temperatures down on Sunday.
The hot weather looks meek after a week of storms and blistering heat. A violent storm brought heavy winds — and even a tornado — to knock down trees and knock out power across Chicagoland last Monday. Then a heat wave brought record high temperatures and triggered a heat advisory on Tuesday and Wednesday.
