SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — For the first time at Roosevelt High School’s homecoming celebration, a live band will be playing- but not just any live band.
“We started back in September of 2022. We got together for, we have another concert here, called Kaleidoscope Concert and we got together for that, me and us three buddies. And then eventually that turned into an actual band, instead of just three guys just playing a song for fun. We actually got together and started the band and stuff. We’ve been playing ever since then,” said Evan Ehlers, guitarist and lead vocalist.
The Sertoma Project has two of its three original members. Since their bass player graduated, the band has added a new member.
“I would say last year, talent show, they asked me to play, but I played the rhythm guitar, instead of the bass and then after that bassist went to college I took on the bass role,” said Joe Brown, The Sertoma Project’s bass player.
In preparation for their homecoming show, the band played at the school’s talent show Friday afternoon. Friday night’s performance will include a setlist that The Sertoma Project put together.
“Yeah, I’m excited for it. I’m a little nervous just because I don’t have the setlist like, memorized in order. But that’s what you have a setlist for, so,” said Mike Brown, lead guitarist and backup vocalist.
“I’m hype. Let’s go. It’s homecoming, I’m hype. I think it’s going to be a good show. It always is. People are always happy. They always laugh. And, you know, that’s, that’s my thing,” said Joe Brown.
“I think we’re feeling really great about it. It’s going to be really fun show,” said Ehlers.
