Monday is expected to be very hot. A high of about 99 degrees with mostly sunny skies is forecast after a partly cloudy weekend, the National Weather Service said.

Breezy conditions are expected this afternoon and temperatures will drop to an overnight low of about 57 degrees. Winds could gust as high as 28 mph overnight.

The eastern plains will see record heat, according to the National Weather Service. Skies may be smoky across the state due to a wildfire in Arizona.

Tuesday will be slightly cooler. The weather service forecasts a high of 86 degrees with a slight chance for showers and thunderstorms after noon.

Temperatures are expected to remain in the 80s through Wednesday. Later this week, highs are expected to rise back into the 90s with partly cloudy skies and the potential for sporadic showers.

Going into the weekend, expect hot weather with several days nearing 100 degrees in the metro area.
