HAMILTON COUNTY, Ind. — The Henry County Sheriff’s Office has launched a search for two armed suspects.
In a release posted on Facebook, Henry County Sheriff John Sproles indicated that, around noon, he was made aware of a pursuit that started in Hamilton County on U.S. Highway 36. Sproles reported that the chase entered Madison County before police lost sight of the suspect vehicle.
Per Sproles, the suspects police were chasing had fired shots at a person in Hamilton County before fleeing the area in a vehicle. Information given to Sproles also indicated the subjects were armed with AK-47s.
After initially losing sight of it, police later found the suspect vehicle near the intersection of U.S. Highway 36 and County Road 500 West in Henry County. In a subsequent attempt to evade law enforcement, the suspects then tried to turn onto County Road 500 West at a high rate of speed.
Sproles confirmed that the suspects ultimately crashed into an open field. After they crashed, the suspects fled into a nearby wooded area on foot.
Sproles reported that multiple law enforcement agencies searched the area for more than three hours, utilizing drones and K-9s. In total, more than 50 law enforcement officers participated in the search.
As of 6:15 p.m., police had not located the suspects. Investigators believe the suspects are armed and dangerous.
Law enforcement recovered one AK-47 from the suspect vehicle.
Sproles is urging civilians in the area to be vigilant and call 911 to report suspicious activity. Police did not have precise descriptions of the suspects they’re searching for with Sproles describing the subjects as “two Black males.”
