It was fantastic to read May 29 guest column by Dr. Jennifer Hailey, “A mental health crisis is impacting pregnant people,” which brought to light to the major mental health issue of perinatal mood and anxiety disorders. In addition to what she stated, it is important to share information about resources available to address the disorders. Here are some:

• Maternal Mental Health Hotline: 1-833-943-5746, accessible by phone or text 24/7 and staffed by trained providers who speak English and Spanish

• Postpartum Support International: postpartum.net. Resources include online support groups, local maternal mental health therapists, specialized coordinators (perinatal loss, military families, new dads, etc.), and warm line (1-800-944-4773, accessible from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and staffed by volunteers who speak English and Spanish). All resources are free and accessible to anyone who reaches out to them.

These resources can save the lives of moms-to-be, new moms and their babies. If you know of a pregnant woman or a new mom, make sure to ask how she is feeling.
