SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — A semi-truck hauling hay bales caused quite the mess Monday afternoon.
In a post on Facebook, the Hamlin County Sheriff’s Office says that shortly after 12:00 p.m. on Monday, officers were dispatched to a hay bale vs car crash. The crash occurred on U.S. Highway 81 near County Road 186.
A semi-truck pulling a trailer full of bales was headed south when the back end broke open, which allowed the hay bales to fall onto the highway.
One of the bales collided with a passing vehicle and caused damage.
The highway was closed for nearly an hour and traffic was diverted to a side road until all the hay was removed.
