HARTFORD CITY, Ind. — A Hartford City man was apprehended by U.S. Marshals in Michigan earlier this month after he was reportedly kicked out of a sober living facility in Marion.
Last year, Anthony Romano was charged with two counts of rape, along with one count of criminal confinement and one count of battery. This was in relation to an incident where an Ohio woman accused Romano of confining her to a hotel room and raping her multiple times.
According to an update from the Blackford County Sheriff’s Office, Romano was released on July 10 following a bond reduction to $2,000. This release was under the condition of GPS monitoring.
Officials said Romano was supposed to stay at a sober living facility in Marion. If he left the facility, he would return to jail.
The office said that Romano was reportedly kicked out of the sober living facility and traveled to South Bend. He then traveled to Michigan and removed his ankle monitor on Nov. 13.
After the ankle monitor was removed, the Blackford County Sheriff’s Office contacted the U.S. Marshals Service for assistance in locating Romano.
“Thanks to their swift action and expertise, Romano was located and safely brought back into custody within 24 hours,” the office said. “We would like to extend our gratitude to the U.S. Marshals Service for their willingness to work together with other agencies. Their efforts play a crucial role in maintaining public safety.”
According to court documents, Romano had a pre-trial conference for his charges on Monday afternoon in Blackford County.
