VERMILLION, S.D. (KELO) — The Hamlin football team scored 26 unanswered points Thursday to roll to a 32-8 win in the 9AA state championship.

The win marks Hamlin’s first state championship since winning the 9B title in 2014. It’s their sixth championship overall.

Quarterback Jackson Wadsworth was named the game’s Outstanding Back and Joe Robbie MVP. Dawson Noem was named the Outstanding Lineman.

THE GAME

Hamlin opened the game with a four minute touchdown drive, that resulted in a one yard touchdown run by Evan Stormo.

On the very next play, Parkston’s Kolter Kramer returned the kick-off 97 yards to even the game. The two point conversion was good to give the Trojans an 8-6 lead.

Hamlin followed that with 26 straight points, including a couple of Turner Stevenson touchdown runs and a Wadsworth touchdown pass.

THE NUMBERS

Wadsworth was named the MVP following 216 yards passing and six yards rushing. The Chargers rushed for 114 yards.

Evan Stormo hauled in seven catches for 80 yards. Boden Stevenson caught three passes for 61 yards and a score.

The story of the game was the Hamlin defense, which allowed just 153 yards to Parkston. Kolter Kramer rushed for 46 yards to lead the ground attack.
