ROCHESTER, Ind. — A gun went off at a high school wrestling meet in northern Indiana on Saturday.
According to a Facebook post from the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office, 44-year-old Scott Yeager of Bremen was arrested after police determined a gun was negligently discharged during an 11-team invitational at Rochester High School.
An FCSO deputy was already in attendance when the shot rang out. Police later determined Yeager had two loaded handguns in his backpack.
FCSO reported that one of the handguns had a spent round in it. Investigators also found a knife and narcotics in Yeager’s bag.
Nobody was injured during the incident, per FCSO. Yeager now faces numerous felony charges, including possession of a firearm on school property, possession of cocaine, possession of methamphetamine and criminal recklessness with a firearm.
The stiffest of the charges Yeager faces — criminal recklessness with a firearm — is a Level 5 Felony in Indiana. The maximum penalty for a Level 5 Felony in the Hoosier State is a six-year prison sentence and a fine of up to $10,000.
