SIOUX FALLS S.D. (KELO) — The Great Plains Zoo announced the addition of two new animals to their collection: a giraffe and meerkats.
According to a news release, Mario the giraffe arrived this week from the Lincoln Zoo where he was born two years ago. Mario is 12 feet tall and will continue to grow.
Along with the giraffe, a mob of meerkats will live in the African lion building’s new meerkat habitat. At first, they will be viewable indoors only. Once they have acclimated, the mob will have access to their outdoor exhibit. Meerkats Biff and Clementine will remain in the giraffe barn’s meerkat exhibit. The five meerkats arrived from Oakland Zoo, their names are Kai, Api, Ixigaza, Zimwi, and Khoa.
