LATEST May 16, 4:10 p.m. The San Rafael Fire Department said at 4 p.m. that a grass fire burning near Highway 101 at Lucas Valley Road was under control.

All lanes reopened.

The blaze burned about a quarter-acre of brush.

Traffic remained backed up due to the earlier closure of the right lane.

May 16, 3:59 p.m. A grass fire in San Rafael was blocking the right lane of southbound Highway 101 at Lucas Valley Road, creating a major traffic backup Monday afternoon.

The fire is burning near the Four Points Sheraton in Terra Linda, the San Rafael Fire Department said.

The fire department first reported the blaze at 2:22 p.m. and at 3:30 p.m. KCBS Radio said it was still burning.


There is “no estimated time for reopening,” KCBS said. 

The San Rafael Fire Department didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.
