GRANT COUNTY, Ind. — A Grant County man was arrested for promotion of human sexual trafficking on Friday.
According to a press release from the Grant County Sheriff’s Office, police responded to a disturbance in the 400 block of West Main Street in Van Buren at approximately 3:40 a.m.
After they arrived at the scene, deputies determined that two women barricaded themselves inside a room in the area. GCSO reported that, following an investigation, police determined the women were afraid of being injured and deported from the United States.
Investigators believe the threats of violence and deportation were directed toward the women in an attempt to control them. GCSO indicated that the women lived at the residence they were barricaded in.
Police determined the women came to Indiana from Venezuela in April 2023 on a work VISA sponsored by 59-year-old Gregory M. Marsh.
After conducting interviews with the victims, investigators obtained a warrant for the arrest of Marsh. He was later taken into custody and charged with domestic battery, criminal confinement, voyeurism and promotion of human sexual trafficking.
Three of the charges Marsh faces are felonies. Criminal confinement — the stiffest of the charges — is a Level 3 Felony in Indiana.
The maximum penalty for a Level 3 Felony in the Hoosier State is a 16-year prison sentence and a fine of up to $10,000.
