PIERRE – In an error-filled doubleheader, the Pierre Governors split with the Sturgis Scoopers Tuesday at Hyde Stadium with Pierre winning the first game 9-7 and Sturgis taking a 10-9 win in the nightcap.
Pierre survived four errors to win the first game, taking the lead for good with an RBI infield single by George Stalley in a three-run sixth inning. Cade Kaiser hit a two-run homer for the Governors. Jett Zabel and Gary Nedved each had two hits.
In the second game, four Pierre errors led to a six-run third inning for Sturgis. The Scoopers committed six errors themselves as the Governors cut the lead to 6-4 after five innings. Sturgis then scored four runs in the sixth. The Governors (7-8) managed only one hit until the seventh inning, when they scored four. A wild pitch scored one run, Stalley singled to bring in another, and Nedved then singled in two before Jayden Wiebe struck out to end the game with the tying and winning runs in scoring position.
