The Republican elites put the onus on former President Donald Trump to seek peace and harmony with the establishment. Wrong. He did that already and the party elites, like the Sen. Mitch McConnell of Kentucky, thumbed their noses at him, even after Trump gave McConnell’s wife a Cabinet-level position — the first she had in decades in Washington, D.C.
Trump is the former president and leader of the party. It’s up to the party and its members to rally around him, not the other way around. It’s worked this way for centuries. Trump is the party.
