Salon: “Birth control access could be next for SCOTUS to roll back: ‘There’s no doubt Griswold is at risk’”

MADISON – With the aftershocks of the Supreme Court decision to overturn Roe v. Wade still fresh in the minds of millions of women, new threats to reproductive rights are already emerging: states are working to restrict contraception access, and radicals on the Supreme Court have called for the court to issue new rulings on critical court cases.

In the wake of these threats, State Treasurer and candidate for U.S. Senate Sarah Godlewski today called on President Biden to sign executive orders directing the federal government to strengthen legal protections for contraception.

Specifically, Sarah is calling on the Biden Administration to:

  • Reverse a Trump Administration rule that allows employers to cut contraceptives from employee insurance plans
  • Prevent insurance companies from willfully ignoring the mandate for contraception coverage

“Overturning Roe v. Wade was just the start in the right-wing war on women, and I fear more attacks on our freedoms are coming,” said Sarah Godlewski. “Justices on the Supreme Court and Republicans in the Wisconsin Legislature are signaling they will take away more freedoms women have had for decades. President Biden must use executive action now to protect access to contraceptives until we beat Ron Johnson, have a pro-choice Senate majority, and can protect access under federal law.”

In May, Sarah called on President Biden to use every lever at his disposal, including executive action throughout his Administration, to protect reproductive freedom.
