A 4-year-old girl was fatally wounded Wednesday morning by another child who lives in the same household in west suburban River Grove, officials said.
About 10 a.m., the father, who is a concealed carry license holder, was outside in the 2400 block of West Street when he was alerted his daughter was accidentally shot by another child, River Grove police said.
The father told police he was the owner of the gun that was stored on a high shelf in a closet.
His daughter was taken to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood where she was pronounced dead. She was identified as Camila Ariana Duarte, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
Interviews with everyone involved in the shooting are ongoing, police said.
