PIERRE S.D. (KELO) — As we enter the Fourth of July holiday period one lake is closed because of flooding and others may have limited use.
Currently there is one lake closed to boating: McCook Lake in Union County. There are also no-wake zones on Lake Campbell and on Wall Lake. Swan Lake in Turner County has been reopened to boating.
The Game Fish and Parks said people should be cautious and that those going on the lakes to due to floating and hidden debris that could still present in the lake from the high water levels.
“As we head into the holiday weekend safety remains a priority on every waterbody across the state,” said Sam Schelhaas, Law Enforcement Chief in a press release. “We want to remind boaters to have and utilize life jackets, respect no-wake zones, be aware of potential floating debris, and always have a sober driver operating the boat.”
The GFP also reminds everyone enjoying the lakes to have proper safety equipment which includes; lifejackets or personal flotation devices, throwable device, fire extinguishers, navigation lights, whistle or sounding devices.
All of South Dakotas beaches and parks will be open for the holiday.
