ATLANTA—Georgia State University has been named a VETS Indexes 4 Star Employer as part of the 2022 VETS Indexes Employer Awards. The award recognizes Georgia State’s commitment to recruiting, hiring, retaining, developing and supporting veterans and the military connected community.

“Georgia State University has demonstrated an outstanding commitment to veterans and the military community through its efforts to recruit, support and promote those who served our country bravely,” said George Altman, managing director of VETS Indexes.

“One of the best ways to help veterans is to connect them with fulfilling and meaningful careers at organizations where they can develop their skills and grow into senior leaders. As a VETS Indexes 4 Star Employer, Georgia State University has proven to be a welcoming home for veterans and military spouses who want to start the next phases in their lives.”

VETS Indexes uses an in-depth survey to analyze an employer’s policies, practices and outcomes in detail across five categories:

  • Veteran job candidate recruiting and hiring.
  • Veteran employee development and retention.
  • Veteran-inclusive company policies and culture.
  • Support for members of the National Guard and Reserve.
  • Military spouse/family support.

Among its initiatives for veterans, the university has a support program, GSUVETS, that is aimed at increasing morale and retention by providing veteran employees (both faculty and staff) support, networking and career development opportunities, said Mark Eister, Georgia State’s director of military outreach.

“Georgia State’s recognition by VETS Indexes as a top employer of veterans is not only a great honor, but also reinforces and aligns with the goals and vision of the university to be a national leader in the advancement of diversity, equity and inclusion,” he said.

The recognition comes on the heels of the university’s recent award as the No. 1 Military Friendly® tier-1 research institute in the nation.

Nearly 120 organizations submitted surveys to be considered for the awards. Responding organizations included companies large and small, government agencies and departments, nonprofit groups, colleges and universities. Not all organizations that submitted surveys were recognized with awards. The VETS Indexes Employer Awards are reserved only for employers whose veteran-related efforts stand out from the pack as the best. Learn more about the VETS Indexes process and methodology.
