GRANT COUNTY, Ind. — The Grant County Sheriff’s Office arrested a wanted sex offender on Tuesday after a short foot pursuit and the deployment of a K-9 unit, the GCSO announced on Wednesday.
According to a Facebook post, the GCSO arrived at the Marion home of 40-year-old Rytonio Demar Depriest to serve warrants. There, Depriest fled the home, ignored verbal commands and did not comply with police.
Through the assistance of a K-9 unit, the GCSO said officers placed Depriest in handcuffs and transported him to the Grant County Jail after being treated for minor cuts and scratches.
He faces a charge of failing to register as a sex or violent offender (Level 5 Felony), a probation violation concerning a sex offender failing to possess identification and the possession of methamphetamine. Additionally, Depriest faces a new charge of resisting law enforcement, per the GCSO.
“This operation highlights the importance of our K-9 units and the collaborative effort of our deputies to ensure that offenders are held accountable,” said Sheriff Del Garcia of the GCSO. “We remain steadfast in protecting our community and enforcing the law.”
If convicted, Depriest could face up to six years in prison.
