Services for a Mississippi State University student who was found dead in his vehicle Sunday will be held Wednesday in Madison.
University officials say the death of 19-year-old Maxwell Pennebaker of Madison remains under investigation.
“It is with the deepest of sorrow and so much sadness that we announce the death of our sweet, precious Max,” Pennebaker’s family wrote in his obituary.
Pennebaker was a sophomore building construction science major and member of the Phi Kappa Tau fraternity. He graduated from Madison Central High School in 2022.
Mississippi State President Mark Keenum and his wife Rhonda Keenum shared their condolences with Pennebaker’s family and friends. The couple also met Sunday with the men of Phi Kappa Tau to express their sympathies, encourage and pray with them.
Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. Wednesday in the parish hall at Chapel of the Cross in Madison, 674 Mannsdale Road. A memorial service will follow at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of the Resurrection at Chapel of the Cross. A private burial with family will follow.
Pennebaker’s family is requesting donations in his honor to made to Webster Animal Shelter, “a place he so dearly loved.” Checks may be mailed to Webster Animal Shelter, 525 Post Oak Road, Madison, MS 39110.
