SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — The City of Sioux Falls has canceled its planned Fourth of July celebrations citing forecasted morning thunderstorms and cool temps.

The City of Sioux Falls released a statement Wednesday afternoon saying their Fourth of July Celebrations, which include a 5k fun run/walk, parade, picnic and afternoon entertainment.

“Safety of every resident is our top priority,” said Jackie Nelson, Recreation Manager for Sioux Falls Parks and Recreation in a press release. “We understand the disappointment this may bring to the community and participants who enjoy the tradition of the Independence Day Celebration. We appreciate residents’ understanding and support and look forward to seeing everyone at future events.”

Individuals who registered for the 5K walk/run may pick up their t-shirts at the Midco Aquatic Center during normal business hours through Friday, July 12.
