MILWAUKEE – Scott McCallum, a former Wisconsin governor and now Republican co-lead at the Wisconsin Alliance for Civic Trust [ WisAct ], will be the guest speaker at a Newsmaker Luncheon set for Thursday, October 10, hosted by the Milwaukee Press Club and WisPolitics.com.

Funded by a grant from The Carter Center, founded by former President Jimmy Carter, WisAct’s stated mission is to promote values fundamental to our democratic republic, including support for fair, safe, and secure elections, and support for peaceful engagement. It works to provide accurate information and foster an environment for healthy political debate, grounded in verifiable facts, according to its website. This includes helping to ensure that every eligible vote is counted accurately, and that our electoral system is free from intimidation and coercion.

McCallum served as Wisconsin Governor from 2001 to 2003 after a 14-year tenure as Lieutenant Governor and 10 years in the State Senate.

After leaving state government, McCallum was president and CEO of the Aidmatrix Foundation in Dallas, TX. from 2005 to 2015, a worldwide technology provider in the humanitarian sector. McCallum has taught at the University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Medicine and Public Health, and later as an adjunct professor in the LaFollette School of Public Affairs. Currently, he teaches in the UW-Milwaukee Bader Institute of Nonprofit Management.

McCallum will take questions from a panel of journalists and from the audience at the luncheon, to be moderated by Milwaukee Press Club President Maryann Lazarski, journalism instructor at Marquette University.

The media panel will include:
Jason Fechner – Spectrum News1
Meredith Melland – Neighborhood News Service
Jessie Opoien – Milwaukee Journal Sentinel
The luncheon is set for 11:45 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Newsroom Pub, 137 E. Wells St. in Milwaukee.
