SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — A former South Dakota Department of Revenue employee pleaded guilty to one count of forgery and one count of grand theft by deception in Hughes County Circuit Court Monday.

According to the attorney general’s office, Lynne Hunsley was sentenced to three years in prison suspended for the forgery charge and one year of prison suspended on the grand theft charge. Hunsley was placed on probation for three years, fined $1,000 and ordered to pay $1,200 in restitution.

“The defendant has accepted responsibility for her actions and is being held accountable for violating the public’s trust,” Attorney General Marty Jackley said in a news release. “As Attorney General, I will continue to protect taxpayer dollars and restore the public’s trust in state government.”

Hunsley used her position with the Divison of Motor Vehicles to falsify records between Jan. 2021 and June 2021 that resulted in her not having to pay $1,000 in tax liabilities to the state.

Jackley announced the charges against Hunsley in October after previously announcing charges regarding a state employee who allegedly stole more than $1.7 million from DSS and another former state employee accused of creating fake car titles.
