Rapidly-growing Wonder — where its food halls are set up like a ghost kitchen — is coming to Philadelphia for the first time this year. The business plans on opening 10 locations in the area, following in the footsteps of a launch in New York (where it’s known for chef collaborations), and has already opened numerous subsequent locations in its short lifespan.
Within Philadelphia proper, Wonder’s first food hall will be in the Northeast neighborhood in the Roosevelt Mall at 2327 Cottman Avenue, set to open in April. That will be followed by Fishtown at 23 West Girard Avenue in May, and then in South Philly at 1001 South Broad Street in July 2025.
Then, outside of Philadelphia proper, Wonder will be opening in Admore at 17 West Lancaster Avenue and then in King of Prussia at 600 West Dekalb Pike, both opening in April.
Another fleet of Wonders will be found:
- Rittenhouse Square at 1600 Chestnut Street opening sometime in in the summer or early fall
- West Chester at 706 East Market Street
- Newtown Square at 3741 West Chester Pike
- Mount Laurel at 127 Ark Road
- Cherry Hill at 2050 Route 70
Founder Marc Lore — the billionaire entrepreneur known for creating e-commerce sites like Diapers.com and Jet.com — started Wonder as a business of making, serving, packaging, and delivering food in quick, replicable, and quality ways. The company’s food hall-ghost kitchen model, where he worked with notable restaurants and chefs who had created exclusive-to-Wonder restaurants, developing recipes that emphasized quickness, replicability, and quality of dishes.
Those partnerships include Southern seafood restaurant Bankside by New York chef JJ Johnson; Spanish tapas restaurant Jota by José Andrés (who is also on Wonder’s board of directors); fried chicken restaurant Streetbird by Marcus Samuelsson; Bobby Flay Steaks; chef Michael Symon’s Mediterranean restaurant Yasas and Greek restaurant Chios Taverna; Jonathan Waxman’s Californian cuisine spot Walnut Lane; Brooklyn pizzeria Di Fara; and many others. During a 2024 visit to some of Wonder’s locations in New York and New Jersey, former Eater NY critic Robert Sietsema reviewed the restaurants, finding a mixed bag of quality depending on the vendor.
The actual lineup for the Philadelphia restaurants will be announced later. Because of these forthcoming Philly-area locations, Wonder’s delivery range will expand into Northeast, Main Laine, and South Jersey. The company is partnering with the nonprofit food bank Philabundance. That means people will be able to round out their orders with donations to the organization.
Wonder’s orders can be placed in person through its own app, or via Grubhub (which the company acquired in November 2024) for dine-in, takeout, or delivery services. The latter is is comprised of a mix of in-house staff, third-party companies, and bike couriers made through New York-based Relay (which the company acquired in November 2024). Lore has raised a ton of money for Wonder, including $700 million in March 2024. He also acquired the meal kit delivery company Blue Apron in 2023.
Wonder’s first address opened in 2023 in New York’s Upper West Side neighborhood. Lore said his goal is to open 90 locations by the end of 2025. This includes the 38 in the Northeast region, with 15 more to come, including these Philadelphia ones as well as the three set for Washington, D.C.
