SIOUX FALLS S.D. (KELO) — It’s been a week of homecoming activities for many schools around Keloland. From dressing up, to the parades and to wrap it all up with a Homecoming football game.

In this week’s Flashback Friday, Susan Greeley takes us to Ramona, South Dakota in 1987 for the return of the Homecoming Parade after 16 years.

The junior and senior classes at Ramona High spent the morning building the typical homecoming float but even the upper classmen here are new to this game its the first homecoming parade the school has had in 16 years.

I think at the time the school board decided that they had lost one game that they should win and that they had just been spending too much time making the floats and not enough time preparing for the game.

In many ways Ramona’s was a typical parade with homecoming royalty proud parents and lots of school spirit.

Old ham had it and when we was playing football with them we had to go over there and go through their parade so its something thats new and i think it’ll be real nice i think everybody is pretty excited about it.

But in a town of 200 parade participants include more than just the high schoolers there are the aspiring football players and those who were cheerleaders some years ago. Even the smallest children get involved if for less nostalgic reasons.

“I like it. Why. Because you get out of school, and its fun.”

As for those old concerns over all the parade hoopla over shadowing the game, the players say not to worry.

“Well Egan hasn’t won a game in four years and we’re second in state so pretty confident,”.
