HANCOCK COUNTY, Ind. — A Fishers man has been found guilty of rape, kidnapping and several other felony charges following a jury trial last week.

Akeenen Anton Lamar Hunt was found guilty on July 19 of 15 felony counts during a trial that lasted four days. Below is a breakdown of each count Hunt was convicted of:

  • Invasion of privacy, Class A misdemeanor
  • Leaving the scene of an accident with bodily injury, Class A misdemeanor
  • Two counts of attempting to commit kidnapping while hijacking a vehicle, level 2 felony
  • Kidnapping, level 6 felony
  • Three counts of criminal recklessness committed with a deadly weapon, level 6 felony
  • Three counts of domestic battery in violation of a no-contact order, level 6 felony
  • Two counts of criminal confinement, level 6 felony
  • Intimidation with the threat to commit a forcible felony, level 6 felony
  • Rape, level 3 felony

According to previous reports, Greenfield police launched an investigation into Hunt in the early morning hours of Dec. 13, 2023, after being dispatched to the scene of an apparent accident in the 1900 block of North State Street.

Upon arrival, GPD said officers observed an abandoned cell phone that was found among the debris of two separate vehicles in the parking lot of Little Ro’s Pub. GPD said the officers followed the trail of debris left behind by the vehicles which led officers from the front side of a Walmart on North State Street to the department store Bealls, which is located at 1659 Melody Lane.

The debris appeared to match the vehicles that were found between the Walmart and the parking lots in the area, GPD said.

One of the vehicles, which police confirmed was a white 2003 Mercury, sustained heavy damage to its front end and was missing a back wheel. The other vehicle, a gray 2021 Jeep Cherokee, also had extensive damage.

Officers soon determined that the vehicles belonged to Hunt and the victim as they continued gathering evidence and reviewing surveillance footage depicting the altercation.

Later on that same morning, officers were called to a home located in the 2300 block of Collins Way to conduct a welfare check after the Hancock County 911 Center received a call from a man claiming that the victim had asked him to send police to their home.

GPD said Hunt and the victim had been in a previous relationship before he was arrested for domestic violence. The victim had moved to Texas to avoid coming into contact with Hunt.

Further investigation revealed that the victim had returned to their Hancock County residence on Dec. 12 when Hunt called them before kicking the back door of the home the next day. GPD said Hunt left the residence while the victim hid inside the home. At some point, the victim exited the residence and drove to a nearby Walmart located on North State Street.

Hunt then reportedly saw the victim in their vehicle and proceeded to ram his vehicle into the victim’s car multiple times.

The cars eventually came to rest on Meloday Lane where the victim left the vehicle and began running on foot to flee from Hunt. Hunt followed and forcibly took the victim to their house while he physically assaulted them.

Once they returned to the residence, Hunt reportedly continued assaulting the victim and raped them.

In February, FOX59/CBS4 learned that the Hancock County Prosecutor’s Office brought 100 additional charges, including invasion of privacy and obstruction of justice, against Hunt after investigators said he violated a no-contact order and harassed the victim multiple times while in jail.

As investigators built a case against Hunt, GPD confirmed that the victim fled to Dubai to avoid testifying to the jury. The victim did phone in but never testified during the trial.

Hunt could receive a total prison sentence of 82 years next month.

Hancock County Prosecutor Brent Eaton shared the following statement after Hunt’s conviction.

“This is an outstanding result. We appreciate the work of the Greenfield Police Department in providing us the evidence we needed to be able to prosecute this case. The work of the trial team was some of the best legal work I have ever seen in my 23 years of legal practice. They did an outstanding job on a very difficult and important case. This work started in December of 2023 and did not stop until those guilty verdicts were read in court. I estimate that in the last two weeks alone Ms. Herring and Ms. Jessup put in a combined 300 or so hours of work to achieve this result. That would not have been possible without the excellent teamwork of everyone else at HCPO working together to keep everything else operating as efficiently and productively as usual over the last couple of weeks. I am very proud of our entire team.”

Hunt is set to be sentenced in Hancock Circuit Court on Aug. 6 at 1:30 p.m.
