Three volunteer firefighters from Fort Pierre and one from Britton are in Colorado helping to fight a wildfire.

Fort Pierre Assistant Chief Tye Odden says they are in the southwestern part of Colorado, not far from the New Mexico state border.

As of this morning (May 27, 2022), he says the Perins Peak Fire was measured at just over 100 acres in size.

Odden says fighting fire where they are in Colorado takes a different strategy than fighting a grass fire when they’re at home.

Odden says their last working day on the fire line will be one week from today (June 3, 2022).
