At least 45 people were displaced after heavy storms on Friday caused an apartment fire in the east valley, according to the Clark County Fire Department.

Firefighters responded to the 2600 block of Atlantic Street about 10 p.m. Friday, Chief John Steinbeck said in a release. They encountered heavy rain, wind and lightning, along with multiple trees that had blown onto nearby vehicles and structures, Steinbeck said.

At least three units in the complex suffered heavy damage, Steinbeck said, causing tenants to be evacuated and utilities to be shut off to avoid secondary fires.

About 45 residents were evacuated, and a temporary shelter was opened by the American Red Cross at Orr Middle School, Steinbeck said.

One injury was reported, and it was non-life-threatening, he said. No other information was released.
