A Memphis man charged with murdering his new wife on their Fiji honeymoon will remain behind bars on the island nation until at least Aug. 18.
Police say Bradley Dawson, 38, killed Christie Chen, 36, at the Turtle Island Resort on July 9. Dawson was charged with murder earlier this month.
Dawson was hoping for an early release on bail at Wednesday’s hearing but was instead ordered back to jail for at least three weeks, the Fiji Sun reported.

An attorney for Chen’s family said the family had arrived in Fiji and was there to collect her ashes and fly home, according to the Fiji Sun. The judge gave prosecutors 21 days to file more information in the case so that it will be in the public record in time for the next hearing.
Details on the horror honeymoon have not been publicly released by police. Dawson and Chen were married only for a short time, the Memphis Commercial Appeal reported.
Dawson divorced a different woman in January 2022, according to the outlet. Dawson’s first marriage ceremony was held in Fiji.
The Turtle Island Resort is famous because the 1980 film “The Blue Lagoon,” starring a teenage Brooke Shields, was filmed there.
