ABERDEEN, S.D. (KELO) — The Castlewood boys are back atop class ‘B’ claiming the 52-31 win over Viborg-Hurley in the state basketball championship Saturday.
The Warriors came out red hot. Each team scored buckets in the opening minutes and then Castlewood closed the first quarter on an 11-1 run, leading 14-3 after one quarter.
The Cougars closed the gap to seven at halftime, but Castlewood would outscore their opponent 31-17 in the second half to claim the 21 point win.
Viborg-Hurley shot 30% from the field and just 11% from beyond the arch. Nick Hanson was the only player to score in double figures.
Castlewood had three players in double digits, led by Bryon Laue’s 13 points. Luke Baumberger added 12 and Brody Bass 11. The Warriors shot 44% from the field and 35 from deep.
The championship marks Castlewood’s first state title win since 2001.
