HURON, S.D. (KELO) — It was another busy day at the South Dakota State Fair in Huron and today was all about agriculture.
Farmers Union Day at the fair kicked off with the annual pulled pork and baked bean lunch. Hundreds of people lined up for the meal provided at less than $.50…the amount the famers receive once their produce reaches the plate.
“Farmers Union sponsors every year the Farmers Share Meal. So you can come and eat but you only have to pay for what the Farmers share of the meal is. So it’s I don’t know, $15 dollar meal, the farmers share is $.48 that’s what the farmers get,” said David Reis Lyman County rancher and Farmers Union Board Member.
One thousand meals were served with all the proceeds going to Make-A-Wish.
Several other ag-related events took place during the day, including a farm safety quiz bowl.
