SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — Labor Day weekend is just about here and the weather is looking ideal for outdoor activities. We will look at past Labor Day weekends.

Once the rain leaves eastern KELOLAND on Thursday, the holiday weekend will be dry. I’m not talking two days of dry weather for the holiday, but if you’re able to take Friday through Monday off, expect all four days to be dry. Unheard of? No, not quite.

We did some research of past Labor Weekends for Friday through Monday for the last time we had all four days being dry. Wouldn’t you know it, the last two years came back as being dry.

Last year’s weather was hot! Sioux Falls had highs in the 90s and 100s all four days, setting record highs that Saturday and Sunday. Even the year before was dry with an average high in the 80s.

After that, there was at least one day with rain dating back to 2010 with many of those weekends having highs in the upper 70s to lower 80s.
The exception was 2012 with an average high of 91.

While it will not be as warm as last Labor Day weekend, we’ll average around 80 degrees. Next weekend is already looking a lot different, as models are predicting much cooler air.
