INDIANAPOLIS — After a spirited campaign, Todd Rokita is projected to have another term as the state’s attorney general.
According to projected results from the Associated Press, Rokita, the Republican incumbent, is expected to be reelected to another term after defeating Democratic challenger Destiny Wells in Indiana’s attorney general’s race. As of 8:56 p.m., Rokita has received 59.31% of the vote while Wells has received 40.69% of the vote. This is with 47% of the vote reported.
Rokita was first elected as Indiana’s attorney general in January 2021. According to previous reports, Rokita raised awareness on several topics while he has been in the position, including:
- Calling for higher education institutions to combat antisemitism
- Developing an Indiana Parents’ Bill of Rights
- Launching a portal where individuals can upload “potentially inappropriate materials” that students are reportedly exposed to in the classroom.
Other priorities that Rokita has highlighted over the course of his reelection campaign included:
- Keeping Hoosiers Safe
- Combatting Biden’s federal overreach
- Protecting taxpayers, stopping fraud and winning settlements
- Securing the right to life
- Defending the Second Amendment and all constitutional liberties
- Holding China accountable
- Stopping unwanted robocalls and standing up for consumers
During his time as attorney general, Rokita was also the subject of multiple disciplinary complaints during his time in the position, including a public reprimand by the Indiana Supreme Court surrounding comments he made on Fox News regarding his office’s investigation into Dr. Caitlin Bernard, an Indianapolis doctor.
Wells was named the Democratic candidate for Indiana Attorney General at the party’s convention In July. Wells, an attorney and combat veteran, initially announced her candidacy in November 2023 after previously running for Indiana secretary of state in 2022.
The two candidates met for a spirited debate in mid-October, taking the time to give some insight into some of their priorities while attacking the other candidate about their respective approaches.
During a speech that occurred before the race was called by the Associated Press, Rokita said that Hoosiers “have rejected this push to the left” and he will continue to put Indiana first.
“We will continue to protect Hoosier jobs, electricity prices from going up any higher, and we’ll protect our economy from this green new scam and other things the left might put on us,” Rokita said. “We will continue to keep dangerous criminals behind bars. and we will continue to ensure boys do not compete in girls’ sports.
“We will never forget that we get our marching orders from the people of this state and not the other way around. Thank you Indiana for giving me and my family the trust and confidence again. I love this job, thank you for letting me continue to do it.”
