Efforts to decorate Trenton are underway in honor of a 15-year-old crash victim.Hallie Deaton died Tuesday following a crash on State Route 73.Community members posted on social media, suggesting people hang red ribbons and balloons around town to honor Deaton, whose favorite color was red. Deaton was a passenger in a car with three friends, ages 15 and 16. Investigators say the driver of that car went left of center, colliding with a pickup truck heading the opposite direction. All four teens were hurt.Four kids and an adult in the truck were not injured. Seven juveniles involved in the crash were students in the Edgewood School District.”I can’t imagine having to go through that, and when they asked if people would put red out of some kind, I said I would do it,” said Cindy Conley, who lives close to the high school. “One level-headed person suggests that we turn the town red, so that’s what we’re doing.”The community is also rallying behind Deaton’s family in other ways. A benefit is scheduled for May 6. It will be held at the Trenton Moose Lodge from 2 p.m. to close.A vigil is planned for Thursday at 7:30 p.m. at Trenton City Park. The Deaton family is asking for everyone to wear red and to bring candles and red balloons.”Everybody knows everybody and it’s a caring community. Everybody cares,” Conley said.Deaton’s mom described her daughter as wonderful and very helpful. She said her daughter had a kind soul and a great sense of humor. She aspired to be a nurse. Edgewood High School’s building will be open Thursday from 1 to 3 p.m. to support students.
