INDIANAPOLIS – A pair of crashes involving utility poles left some Indianapolis residents without power early Thursday morning.
In the first incident, officers were dispatched around 3:55 a.m. to S. Lynhurst Dr. and W. Mooresville Rd., where they found a utility pole had been knocked down.
A police run showed a crash had been reported in that area. Video from the scene showed utility crews examining a downed pole.
A witness told FOX59/CBS4 that a car hit the pole and spun into a neighbor’s front yard. The witness went to check after hearing a loud boom and found three car doors open with no one inside.
The outage map from AES Indiana indicated more than 180 customers were without power as of 5:30 a.m. The map estimated power would be restored by 7 a.m. Earlier in the morning, the problem appeared to affect more than 530 customers.
About 10 minutes later, at 4:06 a.m., another incident sent police to East 30th and North Talbott Street on the near north side. Indianapolis Metropolitan police said a vehicle crashed into a utility pole.
AES crews were also sent to that scene; some homes in the area were without power.
IMPD said minor injuries were reported in that crash and believed alcohol may have been a factor.
The incidents remain under investigation.
