SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) – Incumbent Dusty Johnson will serve another two years as South Dakota’s U.S. House Representative.

The Associated Press has not called this race yet, but Dusty declared himself the winner in a victory speech at 9:30 p.m.

Dusty holds a 79% (27,047) to 21% lead of the vote with 19% of precincts reporting as of 9:30 p.m., according to the Secretary of State’s website

His opponent, Sheryl Johnson, is receiving 20% (6,912) votes.

Only 99 out of the 691 precincts have reported. No results from Minnehaha County have come in yet.

Dusty is celebrating at the Holiday Inn in Sioux Falls with other Republican leaders including Sioux Falls Mayor Paul TenHaken and U.S. Sen. John Thune.

This is the incumbent’s first time in three election cycles with a major party challenger.

He’s has served as South Dakota’s sole representative in Washington since January 2019. During that time, he’s voted 81 times to secure the border and voted against $12 trillion in spending.

“The border is a crisis, the inflation was a self-wound that we did not have to engage in in this country,” Dusty said in an October KELOLAND News interview. “We have a Chinese Communist Party that is way more focused on holding us back than we are ever focused on them.”
