Muncie police were dispatched around 8:40 p.m. Wednesday to a stabbing at an apartment complex on N. Marleon Drive. The caller said a female was outside screaming and that a man had just run away from the area.

Officers found the victim at IU Ball Memorial Hospital where she told investigators what happened. She said she’d just returned from buying groceries when she saw a man standing near the bushes by her unit. As she began to walk up the stairs, she heard the man behind her.

The woman said she turned around and saw her ex-boyfriend, Keywine Gibson, running toward her with a handgun. She told police that she and Gibson had broken up about a week ago.

Court documents detail how Gibson reportedly pulled the gun out and pointed it at her, but then put the pistol away. He then allegedly pulled out a knife and began to stab the woman.

While the woman was unable to remember approximately how many times she was stabbed, hospital staff found more than 20 puncture marks on her clothes. Officials said that the victim needed 32 staples in the back of her head due to stab wounds. She also had cuts on her chest, armpits, neck, back and shoulders.

Later into the night, 911 got a call from a witness who said her roommate had just stabbed someone. The roommate – identified as Gibson – reportedly came home and said he’d just stabbed his ex. The roommate also said Gibson was armed and had been driving a red Saturn.

Officers arrived at Gibson’s residence on W. North Street and found the red Saturn parked outside. Inside the car, officers reportedly found a knife covered in a red substance.

Gibson was arrested and taken to headquarters for an interview. After being read his Miranda rights, Gibson reportedly asked officers whether or not his ex had survived.

“Did she die?” Gibson reportedly asked.

The suspect then told officers that he had a large gap in his memory throughout the night and that he did not remember what occurred. Officers then booked Gibson into the Delaware County Jail on the following charges:

  • Attempted Murder – Felony
  • Aggravated Battery – Level 3 Felony
  • Domestic Battery with a Deadly Weapon – Level 5 Felony
  • Pointing a Firearm – Level 6 Felony

Gibson is now being held in jail on an $80,000 cash bond. Online court records have not yet been updated to reflect an initial hearing date in his case.
