SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) —A fast-moving Alberta Clipper is creating a wide variety of weather conditions across KELOLAND this morning.
**5: 45am Update
First, the latest road report shows slippery conditions from a burst of sleet, freezing rain, and snow. The more significant icing has occurred west of Sioux Falls in the areas shaded in pink on the map below. Keep in mind temperatures are still rising early this morning in southern and eastern KELOLAND, but falling temperatures are already happening in the north along with developing strong winds.
On radar, you can see the snow and mixed precipitation as the clipper makes a track to the southeast. We even noticed a lightning strike around Brookings just after 2am!
Take a look at our Mobridge Camera from around 5am. That’s the wind that we’ll see across the region today.
Let’s look at the wind and snow forecast today. While the total snowfall accumulation will not be heavy, the strong winds will create areas of blowing snow. Wind gusts of 40-55mph will be common in much of the region. If you pause this video below around 4pm, you’ll notice a burst of snow and wind coming toward Sioux Falls again late this afternoon. Keep checking the weather conditions as we monitor the impacts on visibilities through the day.
Here are the details of the forecast.
