The Inflation Reduction Act reminds me of the lyrics of the Rolling Stones’ “You Can’t Always Get What you Want”: “But if you try sometimes, you’ll find you get what you need.”

At least the Democrats and President Joe Biden tried and achieved legislation to meet the needs of most Americans, rather than just the rich.

Compare this with the Republican Party, which has become the Party of No (i.e., the party that refuses to vote to meet the needs of most Americans). No protection of voting rights, no preservation of women’s reproductive rights, no protection against climate change catastrophe, no restrictions on gun ownership, etc.

Instead, Republicans’ biggest legislative change since 2017 was to feather the nest of the rich through a corporate tax break which eliminated billions of dollars in revenue that could have been used to repair crumbling infrastructure and pay for necessary social programs and climate change protections.

So thank the Democrats, including Nevada Reps. Dina Titus, Susie Lee and Steven Horsford, and Sens. Jacky Rosen and Catherine Cortez Masto, for looking out for your interests and working hard, including forcing the Senate to work over the weekend before the August recess to make sure that while you may not always get what you want, Democrats will fight to get what you need.
